Riley Leonard

QB, · Duke

UPDATES

Week 9: Leonard returned from injury in Duke's 38-20 loss to No. 4 Florida State — then reaggravated the injury on an illegal hit by the 'Noles Braden Fiske. The Blue Devils were ahead at the time that Leonard exited the game. He was not allowed to return. His status for next week's game against Louisville is uncertain. — JH

Week 7: DNP — because of injury suffered in Week 5.

Week 6: DNP — Duke was idle. Leonard's late-game injury was diagnosed as a high-ankle sprain. It's uncertain whether he'll return to action next week against visiting NC State. — JH

Week 5: Duke played Notre Dame tough, losing 21-17, with Leonard leaving the game with a leg injury on Duke's final posession. The dynamic QB struggling statistically when passing against a strong Irish defense. The Blue Devils QB finished 12-of-27 for 134 yards and one touchdown, which gave Duke a 14-13 lead in the fourth quarter. But Riley again dramatically impacted the game with his legs, rushing for 105 yards on 11 attempts, including a long of 33 yards, many on designed quarterback runs. On the downside, Leonard also fumbled twice, losing one, and, had one interception. The QB also had a pooch punt in the fourth quarter that pinned Notre Dame at its 5-yard line. — JH

Week 4: Riley was solid in Duke's 41-7 rout of UCONN, going 23-of-34 for 248 yards and one TD. He was sacked once and two passes batted down at the line. He had 28 yards on seven carries, as his running didn't have as much of an impact as it did in Week 3. — JH

Week 3: Leonard was again efficient, going 15-of-20 (75 percent) for 219 yards in directing Duke's offense against an overwhelmed Northwestern team, but he was especially effective as a runner, totaling 97 yards on 13 carries and two rushing TDs. Duke plastered the Wildcats, 38-14. The QB was sacked once and had one dropped pass. Riley has only one TD pass after three games, but Duke coaches have to be content with how he's conducting the offense, especially over the last two weeks. — JH

Week 2: Leonad improved his efficiency, going 12-of-13 for a total of 136 yards and a TD in an abbreviated performance as Duke routed Lafayette, 42-7.  Leonard averaged 10.5 yards per each pass attempt. — JH

Week 1: Duke opened up with a win against Clemson 28-7. Riley wasn't as effecient as he would've liked, going 17-of-34 for 175 yards. But he avoided throwing an interception. He also ran for 59 yards and a TD. All in all, a good start to the 2023 season for Riley and Duke. —JH

Week 0: DNP
