2023 (sr): After spending three seasons at North Carolina and appearing in 37 games for the Tar Heels, Grimes transferred in late December 2022 to Texas A&M for his senior season.

2022 (jr): Started 11 games at defensive back • Recorded 36 tackles, seven PBU and a forced fumble • Made one tackle against FAMU • Had five tackles and a breakup at App State • Registered three tackles, a forced fumble and two PBU at Georgia State • Added two tackles and a breakup against Virginia Tech • Registered three tackles and a breakup at Miami • Had four tackles and a breakup at Duke • Posted three tackles against Pitt • Recorded three tackles at Virginia • Notched seven tackles at Wake Forest • Tallied two tackles vs. Georgia Tech.

2021 (soph): Started all 13 games at defensive back • All-ACC Honorable Mention • Tied for fifth in the ACC with nine pass breakups • Finished the season with 47 tackles and two TFL • Came up with one tackle and a pass breakup in season opener at Virginia Tech • Added a pass breakup and three stops against Georgia State • Recorded three tackles against Virginia • Had three stops and two breakups at Georgia Tech • Made a career-high six tackles and  a TFL against Duke • Came up with five tackles and a pair of breakups against Miami • Had five stops and a tackle for loss at Notre Dame • Made three solo tackles against Wake Forest • Had four tackles and a breakup at Pittsburgh • Registered a career-high seven tackles and had two beakups at NC State • Had six stops against South Carolina at the Duke's Mayo Bowl.

2020 (fr): Appeared in all 12 games and made four starts at defensive back and on special teams • Had 14 total tackles, four pass breakups, 1.5 tackles for loss, one sack and one interception • Registered a season-high three tackles, two PBU and a sack against No. 5 Texas A&M in the Orange Bowl • Picked off his first collegiate pass and had two tackles at No. 9 Miami • Had two tackles against NC State, Wake Forest and No. 2 Notre Dame • Recorded single-tackle games against Syracuse, Virginia and Western Carolina.

High school: A five-star prospect at Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach, VA,  that reclassified to the Class of 2020 and enrolled at UNC • Listed as the nation’s No. 7 player, the nation’s No. 1-ranked cornerback and the No. 1 player in Virginia in the 247SportsComposite • Ranked as the nation’s No. 6 player, No. 1 cornerback and No. 1 player in Virginia by ESPN • Ranked as the nation’s 13th-ranked player, the No. 1-ranked cornerback and the No. 1 player in the state according to Rivals • Invited to play in the Under Armour All-America Game • Selected Class 5 first team all-state as a junior • Named the Class 5 Region A Defensive Player of the Year as a junior when he made 48 tackles and four interceptions • Also contributed 768 all-purpose yards on 40 touches and 14 touchdowns on offense • Two-time All-Tidewater selection by the Virginian-Pilot newspaper • Helped Princess Anne to an 8-3 record and a berth in the Class 5 state playoffs as a junior • Scored 11 touchdowns and had eight PBUs as a sophomore • Had eight TDs and seven INTs as a freshman • Two-sport star that had success in track & field in sprint events, relays and long jump • Coached by James Yeager.
