Broderick Jones

OT · Georgia

OVERVIEW

Summary: Big man with conspicuous athletic ability that reflects history as basketball player. Great feet, agility and quickness are excellent traits for a pass protector. Started only one and a half seasons and has the fewest snaps among FBS tackles in this class, but he is as ready as one can expect of a 21-year-old (turns 22 on May 26). Some believe his lack of length may make Jones more suited for guard. Has not been used as a road grader at right tackle, but appears to be a capable run blocker. Anyway, why worry about run blocking when quarterbacks and passing are King in the NFL, and he is a rare left tackle prospect.

ANALYSIS

Jones started at left tackle for the Bulldogs and had a productive 2022 season. He was a solid tackle for Georgia, but he might be a better fit at guard in the NFL. Team sources say Jones is short, but athletic. They feel he has upside, but is raw and they do not see him as a first-rounder despite the media hype. In a survey of seven teams at the combine, none of them had a first-round grade on Jones. However, he does play a premium position and there are not 31 players with first-round grades, so some players with second-round grades will end up going on the opening night of the 2023 NFL Draft. Jones is a candidate to be one of them.

FRANKLY: Jones is not a finished product, but who cares? Draft him, coach up his natural ability and your quarterback will love you, whether Jones plays tackle or guard. He has All-Pro potential.
