Draft Scout Jimmy Smith News
06/16/16 - CB Jimmy Smith should be healthy for the start of training camp after offseason foot surgery. Smith has dealt with injuries throughout his career but has shown lock-down ability when healthy. "Hopefully, Jimmy will come back and be 100 percent and play all 16 games with no injuries," Ravens secondary coach Leslie Frazier said. "But you need quality depth in this league in the secondary."
06/07/16 - CB Jimmy Smith is expected to be ready for training camp after the screws in his surgically repaired foot were removed in April. When healthy, Smith has shown he can be a dominant shutdown cornerback. However, he has struggled with injuries over the past few seasons. The Ravens need him to play a big role in the secondary this season.
04/29/16 - CB Jimmy Smith will have the screws removed from his surgically repaired right foot next week. He will need four to six weeks to recover.
Smith likely will miss most of the Ravens' spring offseason workouts but he could participate in a minicamp in June, according to ESPN. Smith is expected to be ready for the start of training camp in late July.
Smith, 27, suffered a season-ending Lisfranc foot injury 16 months ago and underwent surgery in November 2014. He started all 16 games for the Ravens last season, finishing with 54 tackles, three interceptions, one sack and 10 passes defended.
12/28/15 - CB Jimmy Smith's game against the Steelers exemplified his up and down season. Smith got called for two costly pass interference penalties. However, he bounced back with a key interception that stalled a Steelers' potential scoring drive.
Smith also would have made one of the biggest plays in the NFL season when he had 101-yard interception return negated by an offside penalty against linebacker Courtney Upshaw.
12/27/15 - CB Jimmy Smith was able to play despite leaving the previous game in the first quarter with a thigh injury. Smith returned to practice as a full participant Thursday. Smith had two costly pass interference penalties but also got a key interception. "To get a turnover, period, is a great thing," Smith said. "To get a turnover in a rivalry game when things are not going the way we want to is even better. Those turnovers turned into points for us today. It was a great thing for us. Got a good win."
