CFB Note - Bowling Green Suder, Jake

K Jake Suder expected to be the starter this year for Bowling Green, but a mistake in figuring his eligibility instead has ended his college career a year earlier than expected. Suder graduated from a northeast Ohio high school in 2013 and went on to kick for Division II Notre Dame College outside of Cleveland. He left Notre Dame after one semester and enrolled in Owens Community College before enrolling at Bowling Green in 2014. Suder didn't see any action in 2015, but took over kicking responsibilities in 2016. In 2017, he was an all-conference kicker. "I thought the fall of 2015 was a redshirt year, but in reality my eligibility clock was ticking, and my redshirt year was 2014," Suder told the Toledo Blade. "Then the coaching switch (from Dino Babers to Mike Jinks) happened, and nobody said anything. I thought I was a redshirt sophomore heading into the 2016 season." The Bowling Green athletic department discovered Suder's eligibility had been used up at the end of last season. Suder appealed to the NCAA, but to no avail.
