Ohio State football expects official visit from best player remaining in transfer portal

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football may not be done enhancing its defense through the transfer portal.
Rivals first reported Tuesday that Northwestern transfer Nigel Glover expects to make an official visit to the Buckeyes later this week. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Glover, a four-star prospect from Dayton-area Clayton Northmont, played a hybrid safety role in high school but expected to play outside linebacker for the Wildcats.
That plan ended July 17. Glover became the first Northwestern player to enter the transfer portal following the firing of coach Pat Fitzgerald related to the athletic department’s ongoing hazing scandal. While there is no current transfer portal window for all players, those whose coaches are fired are granted a 30-day window by the NCAA.

Glover reportedly visited Kentucky on Tuesday and is scheduled to visit Michigan. A scheduled visit to Michigan State was reportedly canceled to make room for the OSU trip.
Ohio State opens spring practice on Aug. 3 — one week from Wednesday — so Glover will presumably make a quick decision. He will have four seasons of eligibility remaining.
Ohio State added three players via the postseason or spring transfer portal periods: Former Ole Miss cornerback Davison Igbinosun and defensive tackle Tywone Malone and former Syracuse safety Ja’Had Carter. All three are veterans with a realistic chance to compete for starting roles this fall.

Caesars Ohio Sportsbook is open for bets now that Ohio sports betting has launched. Other sportsbooks in the state include DraftKings Sportsbook, FanDuel Ohio Sportsbook and Barstool Ohio.
Glover would bring a versatile body to a defense that could use additional depth at multiple positions.
Ohio State never offered Glover a scholarship in high school. Several other Big Ten programs did, though, including Illinois, Iowa and Minnesota. Washington, West Virginia and Pitt were among his other Power 5 offers.
Ohio State has one incoming freshman linebacker, Glenville’s Arvell Reese, joining a group with six scholarship holdovers. If Glover joins OSU and sticks at that position, he could help offset a couple of recent recruiting decisions by Edwin Spillman (Tennessee) and Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa (Notre Dame) that didn’t go the Buckeyes’ way.
The transfer portal already changed the look of the OSU defense, and that pipeline apparently has not closed.
