UNC Football: Rucker and Green named to Wuerffel Watch list

3-3 minutes 8/3/2023
UNC Football upperclassmen Kaimon Rucker and Elijah Green both earned preseason Wuerffel Watchlist honors for the 2023 season.
The UNC football program continues to rack up pre-season watch list honors across various award lists. Upperclassmen Kaimon Rucker and Elijah Green were both named to the Wuerffel Award Watchlist for the 2023 season.
Rucker is a rising senior at Carolina and Green will be a junior during the 2023-2024 school year.
The reigning recipient of the 2022-2023 ACC Top Six in Service Award, Rucker has dedicated time to multiple community programs as well as displayed leadership on campus. Last year, Rucker spent time working with various organizations, including Extra Yard for Teachers, UNC Children’s Hospital visits, Boomerang after-school care program, Y-School Field Trip Tour, and Table NC.
Green is an active member of the Uplifting Athletes Organization and also participated in UNC Children’s Hospital visits last year. He also took part in the ACC Unity Trip to Washington, D.C. a few months ago.
Additionally, Green was a member of the SAAC executive board and also helped lead the UNC Football bible study. Along with his on-the-field success and off-the-field endeavors, Green is an AD Scholar-Athlete and participated in the Global Immersion Program where he studied abroad in New Zealand and Australia.
Both players are certain to be key impact players for the Tar Heels on the field this season, but earning a nomination for the Wuerffel Award Watchlist, it also proves they are valuable in their communities and classrooms as well.
It’s a nice reminder that as fans, we see them as athletes and players. But it is a nice reminder that they care about the communities that surround them and are always looking for opportunities to give back.
The Wuerffel Award is named after former Florida Gators quarterback Danny Wuerffel. The trophy honors college football players who serve others, celebrate their positive impact on society, and inspire greater service in the world.
