Jacquian Williams

OLB · Texas Tech
The Tampa native began his college career at Fort Scott Junior College, where he was named an NJCC first-team All-American in his second season. He transferred to South Florida in 2009 and went on to play in all 13 games, with one start at linebacker. Williams enjoyed a breakout senior season, being voted team captain and going on to earn second-team All-Big East honors after registering 71 tackles to go with 2.5 sacks, 11 tackles for loss, and interception and three pass break-ups.

positives

Lean, rangy player who possesses excellent straight line speed and overall athleticism. Typical South Florida prospect who is full of upside and lacks technical refinement. Clicks and closes very well and can strike the football. Highlight tackler who explodes through hips into ball-carriers. Wraps up well and rarely lets targets slip through his grasp. Can reach plays on the edge and flashes some potential as a straight-ahead pass rusher. Plays well downhill and uses speed to sniff out outside runners. Recognizes plays quickly and gets himself moving toward the football in a hurry. Decent job reading run/pass keys and reacting in a timely manner. Displays high effort and intensity on the field and runs at full speed until the whistle. Can contribute on special teams early in his career.

negatives

Lacks bulk. Is not a strong player at the point of attack. Gets long and leggy when changing directions in a hurry. Shows poor understanding of leverage when taking on offensive linemen. Lets blockers under his pads and plays on his heels when in traffic. Will run himself out of plays and often overruns ball-carriers. Struggles to break down in space and make one-on-one tackle when he's all alone. Takes poor angles to the football and attempts to compensate with straight-line speed instead. Lacks adequate zone awareness and will get caught looking into the backfield in coverage. Has limited array of pass rush moves. Light on experience at the FBS level after time in the JUCO ranks.
