A high school quarterback and defensive back, Ryan was recruited to play cornerback for Rutgers and after redshirting in 2009, he earned his first start there in 2010 as a freshman. He became a full-time starter in 2011 as a sophomore and emerged as one of the team's top defenders with 14 pass break-ups and three interceptions. Ryan improved on his stats as a junior this past season and ranked top-5 in the nation with 21 passes defended, including a team-best four interceptions. He also finished second on the team in tackles with 94 stops, earning First Team All-Big East Honors. A prospect that has shown steady progression since he stepped foot onto campus, Ryan isn't the biggest or fastest, but he plays with intensity and confidence and has produced big numbers as a starter. While it's more likely he ends up as a day two pick, it's not impossible to think that Ryan could join Devin McCourty as the only defensive backs in Rutgers' history to be drafted in the first round.

Enough size and strength for the position with good length. Strong man cover skills and works hard to gain body position and make a play on the ball. Athletic feet and flexible ankles to stick with receivers' hip pocket. Smooth hip movements with the footwork needed for the position. Strikes through the ballcarrier and closes in a flash with good make-up quickness to recover.
