Isaac Yiadom

CB, FS · Boston College
Despite a solid career, Yiadom never earned All-ACC honors and the college production doesn’t stand out, but his tape will be better appreciated by NFL scouts. In his three years as a starter, he lined up primarily at left cornerback for the Eagles, playing both press and off-coverages. Yiadom has the foot quickness and long-speed to stay hip-to-hip with receivers up and down the field, maintaining body position. He has some issues with transitions, leading to spacing issues, and will take some lumps in the NFL while he adjusts to that level of route-running. BACKGROUND As a junior at Doherty Memorial, Yiadom emerged as a possible Division-I athlete, performing well in football and track. He finished his senior season with 107 tackles and two interceptions, earning all-state honors and helping lead Doherty to the 2013 Division 4 state championship. Yiadom was considered a top-three recruit in the state of Massachusetts and committed to Boston College over Connecticut. He played primarily on special teams as a true freshman, registering 13 tackles in 2014. He worked his way into the starting line-up as a sophomore, but also missed time due to several injuries, finishing with 28 tackles, six passes defended and one interception. Yiadom started eight games as a junior and led the team with 10 passes defended, adding 26 tackles and one forced fumble. He started all 13 games as a senior and finished with 53 tackles, nine passes defended and two interceptions.

in our view

Yiadom will have some struggles with sophisticated route-runners, but he has the press skills, play speed and disruptive timing at the catch point that make him an attractive development prospect.

strengths

Excellent blend of height and length for the position. Genuinely enjoys press-coverage. Play speed and hustle are not concerns with this player. Coordinated footwork in his pedal and transition. Stays on top of routes and leverages receivers with subtle contact. Outstanding feel with his back to the ball, turning to locate, track and play the ball with timing. Natural feel for pattern matching. Aggressively attacks blocks en route to the screen/flat ballcarrier. Lowers his shoulder and looks to wrap as a tackler. Confident and plays big in critical situations. Showed steady growth the last four years, turning in his most consistent season as a senior. – Dane Brugler 2/7/2018

weaknesses

Lean-framed and lacks ideal bulk. Inconsistent ball skills and leaves production on the field due to finishing issues. Jam technique requires more consistency. Gives up inside position too easily. Hips/pads tend to rise in his pedal. Straight-legged, creating issues on tight turns. Receivers can force his hip turn, allowing savvy route-runners to create space at the stem. Read/react trigger not as sharp from off-coverage. Play strength is average for the position. Willing vs. the run, but tackling skills require maintenance. Unimpressive ball production. Durability will be questioned due to his body type – missed several games as a sophomore due to a shoulder injury (Oct. 2015). – Dane Brugler 2/7/2018
